IV. Home & Roots
At the very bottom of the chart sits the Fourth House — the Imum Coeli, the deepest point, midnight, the root. This is the foundation everything else is built on, and like all foundations, it's mostly underground.
What Lives Here
Home, in every sense. The literal house and the feeling of home. Family — especially the formative one, the parents, the lineage a person came out of. Ancestry, heritage, the long line behind them. And the private self: the person someone is when the door is shut and there's no one to perform for.
This is where the native goes to be unguarded. It's also where their oldest patterns live, the ones laid down before they could choose them.
When It's Lit
Planets in the Fourth root deep. There's a strong sense of belonging-to-somewhere, a need to build a real home, a pull toward family and the inner life. People with an emphasized Fourth carry their foundations with them — they know where they come from, and it steadies them.
When It's Heavy
Overweighted, the Fourth can trap the native in the past — the family's unfinished business, the childhood home never quite left, the inner life so absorbing the outer one goes neglected. Roots become anchors. The shell becomes a place to hide.
Its Natural Home
The Fourth House belongs to Cancer and its ruler the Moon — the keeper, the one who tends the home and remembers everything. The house of roots is ruled by the sign that builds the nest.
Everything a person builds stands on something they didn't choose. This is the ground.
