Venus is the planet of yes — of attraction, pleasure, and the things that make life worth living rather than merely surviving. She governs love and beauty, of course, but underneath both is something wider: value. What you're drawn to, what you find lovely, what you're willing to hold close and call yours. Venus is how you love and what you love, and the two are never far apart.

What It Governs

Love, beauty, harmony, and worth. Venus rules romance and affection, but also art, taste, style, and the pleasure of the senses — good food, music, touch, ease. She governs how you relate: your charm, your capacity for closeness, the way you draw people toward you. And she rules value in the plainest sense too — money, possessions, and the self-worth underneath them. What you think you deserve, Venus knows.

By Sign and House

Venus's sign is your love language and your aesthetic. In Taurus — one of the signs she rules — she loves through the senses: steady, loyal, physical, unhurried. In Libra, the other, she loves through harmony and grace, forever balancing toward the other person. She's exalted in Pisces, where love softens into the unconditional, and most tested in the signs where feeling has to justify itself.

Her house is where you seek beauty and connection — the arena of life you most want to be lovely, harmonious, and shared.

Vedic vs Western

Both traditions call Venus (Shukra) a benefic — a planet that blesses whatever it touches. Vedic astrology adds a rich layer: Shukra is the teacher of the demons, master of the arts, luxury, vehicles, and the pleasures of married life, and its condition speaks to relationship and refinement. Where Western astrology tends to read Venus as romance-first, the Vedic view holds romance, wealth, comfort, and creative gift together as one bright thread.

When It's Retrograde

Venus turns retrograde only about every eighteen months, and for roughly six weeks — rarer than Mercury's, and quieter. When she reverses, love and value turn reflective. Old relationships and old feelings resurface; what you thought you wanted comes up for review. It's less a warning than an invitation: to ask, honestly, what and whom you actually treasure — and whether your sense of your own worth is telling you the truth.

You will move toward what you find beautiful whether you mean to or not. Venus only asks that you notice what that is — because it becomes your life.
